Gridline is a private, verified network owned by officers — not your agency. Here is exactly how we protect you and your information, in plain language.

Your network, not your department's

Gridline is independent. It is operated by Gridline Network LLC and is not affiliated with, controlled by, or monitored by any agency or government. Your command does not run it, cannot read your messages, and cannot see your activity. Nothing you do here lands in your personnel file.

That independence is the point. On an agency-mandated system, the agency owns the data, retains it, and can pull your access at any time. On Gridline, you own your presence — and you can erase it whenever you want.

Every member is verified by a real person

This is our strongest safeguard. Getting in is deliberately hard, so the people you meet are who they say they are:

  • Agency email required — only government law-enforcement email domains are accepted; personal providers are blocked.
  • Document review by a human — an administrator manually reviews your badge or agency ID to confirm active sworn status.
  • Manual approval — no automatic sign-ups; every account is approved by hand.
  • Peer vouching — members can vouch for officers they know, adding a layer of human trust.
  • Annual re-verification — you re-confirm your active status every year, so the network stays current.

What we store — and what we never store

We collect only what is needed to verify you and run the directory. We are not a case system, and we do not want operational data anywhere near our servers.

No case data — by design. Keeping operational data off the platform protects you from accidentally creating a discoverable record. Our Acceptable Use Policy and an automated scanner enforce it.

How your data is protected

  • Encrypted in transit — all traffic uses TLS.
  • Encrypted at rest — your data is encrypted on our database provider's servers (US-based).
  • Your login is hardware-protected — your session is stored in the iOS Keychain (Secure Enclave on supported devices).
  • Documents are locked down — verification documents live in a private bucket only administrators can open, via short-lived links, and are deleted as soon as the review is done.

We are honest about what we do not do: messages are not end-to-end encrypted. They are protected in transit and at rest, and auto-deleted after 30 days — but we would rather tell you exactly what we do than make an absolute claim we cannot stand behind.

You're in control

  • Messages disappear — direct and group messages are automatically deleted 30 days after they are sent. Save the ones you want to keep.
  • You decide what's visible — your personal contact details are never shown; you choose what appears on your profile.
  • Block & report — block any member instantly, and report content or behavior for review.
  • Leave anytime — delete your account from inside the app. It is immediate and permanent; your data is erased, not archived.

Moderation keeps it trustworthy

A verified network still needs rules. Ours are enforced, not decorative:

  • A clear Acceptable Use Policy with zero tolerance for restricted or case data.
  • Automated content scanning that flags PII and restricted-system data for human review.
  • A moderation queue where reports are acted on, and accounts that violate the rules are removed.
